5th ROAR post

Summary
In my Roar book I read until the finishing point of the book which was very interesting. Bones after leaving went back to Iman for a few days after they decided to go to Jamaica. On their arrival to Jamaica they spent a few days wondering around until they got in touch with Chappies father. When staying at his father's house he lives with a woman who's a whore that had sex with both Iman and Bones. After this Iman was killed for selling fake weed to fellow people from Jamaica. After all this Bones went out on his own and called Russ to speak with him. Russ was the same but a few tragic events happened to where he wants to go to Jamaica with Bones. Bones in addition calls Froggy(Rose)'s mom to check up on her but she died as well. He became furious but kept on his journey on his own. He ended by staying with Captain ave and his little business. Bones decided that he'll be happy no matter where he ends up because everything makes him who he is. He as well looks up at the stars who tell a story about his dead friends and when he needs guidance he just asks the Iman star, that guides him through.
Quotation
"First Adirondack Iron passed into the dark, and then Sister Rose, and finally Lion-I. They were gone and I missed them but even so I was very happy. For the rest of my life no matter where on the planet earth I went and no matter how scared or confused I got, I could wait until dark and look up into the night sky and see my three friends again and my heart would swell with love of them and make me strong and clearheaded"(Banks 380-90).
Reaction
My reaction to this quotation is that Chappie has learned from now on to only depend on himself. He knows that at the end no one but him will always be there and support him. He has grown to learn that if he's born alone , he's going to die alone too. He grew up from how he was before and that made him stronger even though he makes dumb decisions. He needs to learn to make better decisions because his poor decision making is what got him to be counting on destiny. Although he makes poor decisions he follows existentialist since he sticks with his choice. He decides to choose destiny and that's what he does since he goes where the wind takes him.

4th ROAR - 2nd term

Summary
From where I left off at last blog, I now read up to page 225. Up to this page so many events occurred at once and you were pretty much kept in suspense waiting for the next part. Bones has now found Buster and is in the van with him and his daughter Froggy. After Chappie stole his car when he had gotten out , and jet with Froggy . Chappie went back to the Bus place where he met a guy named Iman who they stayed with. Bones stayed with him and they lived out of the plantations they had. After Bones decided to leave and take Froggy who's real name is Rose , back to her mom. They got on a bus back home and Iman supported them and even supported Chappie with money. He left Rose with a random family to watch her until his stop was to his destination. Once he arrived and got in contact with his mom everything got worse. Chappie made his mom choose between him and his stepfather and apparently she didn't choose him. By this Chappie left to his grandmas house where he talked to her then left.
Quotation
Chappie is going to through a difficult stage after hearing the words that came out of his mom's mouth. "Yeah, well, that should make it easy for you to choose, I said. So who's it gonna be, Mom? The terrific husband or the terrible son? "(Banks 207).
Reaction
I felt the pain inside Chappie because he's been alone for so long and then gets rejected by his mom. His mom really chose her husband over her son and told him to go away. I don't know how to react because this is something I can't point out the feeling to. The feeling is like being stabbed since your being rejected probably by the only person who you think cares. Its pretty harsh to have no one there for you and be left with nothing and nobody. If I was put in that position, I would go crazy because I'd be so lost in this cold world.

3rd roar post

Summary

In my Roar book I have read from pages 100- 141, which have left me in shock. In these pages Chappie had went with Russ to get a tattoo over his biker boys tattoo and Chappie ended up getting 2 crossing bones like the ones illustrated in the cover. Now Chappie's new name has become bones, so now I know that the title came from his new identity. After this the boys had left already from that buss they had went to the woods, a house of a family member of Russ. This place was like a vacation place and the boys crashed there for a little bit. They did until the point where Russ decided to go separate ways, so he left Bones all alone. When doing this Bones became very angry at Russ and has left on his own. Bones ended up encountering with Buster again, the man he followed a long time ago at the mall .He is now with Buster up to this point in the book.
My prediction is that he's going to stick around with him for a little and then be on his own again. Bones is going to get tired of being homeless and he's going to go back to his mom. I do not believe that he's going to go a long time alone because he's so young to be left alone in this cold hearted world.

Quotation

Bone now has now been abandoned alone since Russ decided to leave."It was strange to stand there in front of the mirror and see myself like I was my own best friend, a kid I wanted to hang with forever"(Banks 130).

Reaction

Bone believes that he is the only one there for himself which is true. Bone thought that Russ was going to be there but he realized he's on his own at the end. He has changed completely and saw how he is his only friend that he can be with forever. I think that Bone will be alone for the rest of his life because his choice of friends is bad. He doesn't have anyone there for him, therefor he is facing everything at such a young age and on his own . I feel bad for him because he has gone through so much at such a young age.I hope he finds a solution because he can't go through life how he is.

2nd POST !

Summary
In the Rule of Bones I have read from pages 24-100 and let me tell you I learned a lot about the characters and Chappie's way of being. Throughout these pages I found out how Chappie got kicked out by his father for stealing from his family and for Shoplifting in Victoria Secret. Chappie feels really unloved and doesn't know anything practically which is hwy he lets his "best friend" push him around. Ever since he got kicked out he has lived with Russ and his biker friends that are true criminals. From these bikers they do drugs, smoke, steal, carry guns and don't care about anyone. From these guys there Bruce, Joker, and some other ones but Bruce is the only one who seems to have some compassion. Russ doesn't really get along with them but he hangs in there with Chappie since both of them have nowhere to go. Russ starts stealing from the bikers and drags Chappie down which at the end leads to a huge fire. In this fire Bruce went back to the fire to save Chappie after what they had done to him but he ended up realizing Chappie had left and he died in the fire. I found this said because Bruce always liked Chappie so he went back but it was too late. As all these events accrued I realized how Chappie is a follower. Since Chappie is so young he doesn't know what to do or what hes facing, how just goes with the flow to survive all these events. Now Russ and Chappie began to stay at a bus with Richard and James who are old friends of Russ, I see this experience being the same way it was with the bikers. I predict that they will end up having to go somewhere else as I don't find these men trustworthy at all .
As reading I see how the book is going to show the coming of age story for Chappie. Right now Chappie is going through rough times and is in need of his family. Hes alone in a cold war with a fake friend who is very self-centered. I predict that Chappie will have to eventually go back to his parents because he cant be with Russ for the rest of his life because that will end up in him being dead or in jail forever.

Quotation
In the middle so a chapter Chappie begins to describe his environment and his view of things. For example," Nights are okay though because you cant see much and it's cold so everything freezes up but during the days the sky is always this place yellowish color like old mattress stuffing. It makes a strange light and the town looks like it's been through this hundred-year war and everybody's forgotten what they were fighting about so it's hard for them to get too excited now that it's over" (Banks 50).
Reaction
When reading this quote I had several thoughts on his point of view and how hes viewing everything with the hard environment he is living in. When he said the nights are okay, I knew that wasn't how Chappie was feeling inside. The night to me is foreshadowing his home, because he knows that he messed up badly and he cant go back. Chappie came to the conclusion that what hes doing is right but deep inside his days look very different to him then anyone else, by his description. He views the sky as yellow and cloudy like mattress stuffing because hes life is foggy right now, he doesn't know when its going to clear all up and every things going to be better for him. But what made me have the biggest reaction from reading this was the ending and how he said the world looked like it went through a war. This part shocked me because it reminded me of a rough time I went through and to me the town looked weird and the world looked as if a major event took place. The ending probably ment to foreshadow the series of events hes going threw that hes trying to overcome but its difficult since he has no one but Russ on his side, sometimes. Chappie is going threw hard times that he shouldn't go threw on his own since hes very young and doesn't really know much, even though he thinks he does when he really doesn't.

1st ROAR post

Summary
My new roar book for this term is going to be," Rule of the Bone" by Russell Banks. This book reminds me alot my past roar book Girl Interrupted because of the personalities of both main characters. In this book the main character is a boy who is a weed head and dosent care for anyone but himself. Ive only read the first 24 pages because i went through a rough time retreving the book. The boy has a rough replationship with his mother and his dad calls him "him" . His father sees the true him which is why his father doesnt let him off on the easy hook like the mom .The mom is very sentimental and lets him steap over her sometimes. The boy is 14 and hangs out with older guys that do drugs, he is around many bad influences andi s leading to nothing good. The boy dosent respect the famiyl since he steals from his own which is even more wrong then stealing from someone else. He has got cought shoplifting, and has shot around the house and all these bad things. He is following bad footsteaps and as I read I bet I'm going to see how he moves past this stage hes facing now.
Quotation
This is the begining of the book and this part grabbed my attention from the start. "You'll probably think i'm making alot of this up just to make me sound better than I really am or smarter or even luckier but im not. Besides, alot of the things that've happend to me in my life so far which I'll get to pretty soon'll make me sound evil or just plain dumb or the tragic victim of cuircumstances"( Banks 1).
Reaction
My reaction to this quote is that the boy is a pretty dangerous and crazy character. He is crazy by how he talks abouth imself and hes 14 being addicted to marijuana at such a young age. Hes shoplifting and hes doing all the wrong things, and look at his age. This boy is crazy by how he manages to talk how he does and does sound evil because of the vavluable coins of his mom, he stole. This boy has no respect and I think tha these two lines sya alot about him. In a way it demonstrates how hes a boy who throughout the book hopefully hes going to come out of that age stage and grow up.

4th roas post

Summary
For my last post I read through pages 162-204 , which was to the end of the book. The end of the book gave me a better understanding of Susanna as a person and I finally got a answer to why the book was called " Girl Interrupted". Through these pages Susanna speaks of her life after she had left the hospital and all her thoughts. She thought alot about normal topics and why she had the mentality she did. Susanna spends alot of time thinknig to herself and about how she is crazy. She is the type of person that could thing she is alright but she knows deep inside shes going cucu-bananas. Susanna thinks about herself most of the time and tried to understand life in her own way. Getting closer to the end I saw how she doesnt want to have kids or none of that after bumpingi nto Lisa. I foudn that her motivation on planning not to have kids is because maybe shes thinking of her life and how thats affecting her. At the end when shes at a painting galleria with her boyfriend there was one called Girl Interrupted which had the same things she did and things she went through. As she saw this she cried becuase that is what she is , a girl who was interrupted and in her world is being misunderstood.

Quotation
The quotation that hit me the most and stood out to me was at the end of the book. This part leaves you with somethign to think about and brings up many comments and arguments. At the end of the book it was said, " The girl at her music sitsi n another sort of light fitful, overcast light of life, by which we see ourselves and others only imperfectly, and seldom" (Kaysen 204).

Reaction
My reaction to this quote is that this whole book was like To Kill A Mockingbird. The book leaves you wondering of where the title came fro mand leads to a final scene that brings the explanation to msot of your questions. In this book Girl Interrupted was a painting of a girl in her music which describes Susanna and htish er hard when she sees it becuase it reminds her of herself. The book led on to this scence since the book was a flashback and at the end it was a normal day for her until it led to the end where she saw this and gave her final piece of her though. This quotaton tells us how the girl is lost and sees herself alone in the future. I agree with this bok because it goes perfectly with Susanna and it was a good way to end the story .

* thanks Mr.Doreian for the reccomendation on the book, I loved it.

ROAR POST

Summary
In my roar book I read through pages 114-158, which is close to the end of the book. The book at this point talks about the hospital and also her life after she left. Susanna was giving us all this time a flashback of how it was for her in McLean Hospital and their actions.Throughout these pages in the beginning she told us more about how was the hospital. She also went through a rough stage , which showed me she is crazy. She thought she didn't have bones so she bit herself until se saw blood. Then she questioned over and over if she had any bones. The nurse Valerie and Georgina told her she did but that wasn't so convincing. This part showed me how she does need help because she keeps nhaving moments of where she's not thinking at all . Then further in my reading , I noticed how it was after she left and her life was out of place. She was married but was unemployed and wasn't able to get a drivers licence. She couldn't because she was viewed as a "loony bird" and because as soon as she said where she use to be everyone treats her different. On top of treating her different they question her as is she was a retard which aggravates her in many levels.

Quotation
" As long as we were willing to be upset, we didn't have to get jobs or go to school. Wecould weasel out of anything except eating and taking our medication"(pg 114).

Reaction
My reaction to this quotation is that these girls are giving me the impression that the hospital is a joke. As if that place was to have them do as they please since the nurses do as they say. Knowing this makes me wonder if they ever want to move past this stage and be able to live life as they please. But as if now the girls just make me think they're even more crazy and need more help. Because I know that, I would despice being watched, token care of and all of that. In life you get to a point where you want to be able to count on yourself and independent. Although these girls have a way different mentality and with that mentality they won't make it through in life

3rd ROAR POST

Summary
In my next section for reading I only read from pages 89-111 because I realized i have only 100 pages left so i need to distribute the amount so i get to do enough reading for my last 2 posts. In these pages I got to learn more about the actual nurses in the McLean Hospital that the girls have been in. There consist of many nurses but 2 I've been introduced to is Valerie and Mrs.McWeeny. Valerie is favored more by the ladies because shes a little better to them because they could get away with trying to talk trash about Mrs. McWeeny. Mrs.McWeeny doesn't get along with Valerie and by this the girls saw this as a advantage. Even by this the girls still hated all of them since they wanted everything to go their way when they clearly know isn't like that. For example Lisa through out this section wanted a nurse to open her window and she kept threatening to call her lawyer. She said this as she yelled and was demanding to have her window open, she wasn't even asking nicely. These girls expect to have the nurses lay them hand in foot whenever they want when they are totally incorrect. After this for the rest of the section we just got to see more of what was going through Susanna head and more of her personal opinions.
Quotation

These thoughts have no meaning, They are idiot mantras that exist in prearranged cycle: I'm no good, I'm the Angel of Death, I'm stupid, I cant do anything. Thinking the first thought triggers the whole circuit. Its like the flu: first a sore throat, then, inevitably, a stuffy nose and a cough"(Kaysen 93).
Reaction
While reading this quote I realized how Susanna is the type of person to sit there and think to herself. This is one of the moments she is giving her own opinion and gives me a opportunity to see how she feels about herself. She doesn't have high hopes for herself and has a very low self esteem. She knows how things work because she was right when she said after you have a thought on your mind it triggers you by staying there. Although her thoughts are making her seem like a retarded, evil person when I don't believe that's really her. I believe she is smarter then what she appears, but what she's exposed to in front of her is making her make the wrong decisions. I don't see her improving because first it starts mentally then physically but her mental image of herself isn't going to help her. The thoughts that shes having like this one is just going to lead her to the wrong path. Seeing her take this path hurts me because I think of actual people like her he are capable of moving forward but they wont let themselves.

Summary.
In my ROAR book I read from pages 49 to 88 , which provided me with alot of information. Susanna showed me in the story how she can be normal and crazy at the same time by her actions. Through out this part I read flashbacks and sometimes she thought right and i questioned why she was there , if she started learning. Although what I was thinking faded away as she revealed that she gave blow jobs and didn't seem to care. She shared out her business with everyone and had this weird mentality. Her mentality told me how she switches night and day , she becomes frustrated with parents and she volunteer to go to the McLean hospital.By the evidence I see how crazy she really is since she signed herself up without knowing anything. Susanna is the type of person who knows the right things at time, but there's time she thinks without her brain. In this part of the book also I got to see how the other characters become desperate for sexual interaction. The girls discuss how they'll share boys, the nasty things they'll do, and also how they act out when their in public. IN addition to all of this we were introduced to a character names Lisa Cody. Lisa acted just like the other Lisa and was as crazy as the rest of the girls so she fit in quick. I don't see any hope in them but Susanna but with all these influences surrounding her, I doubt she'll make it out.
Quotation.
" I had a character disorder. When I got my diagnosis it didn't sound serious, but after a while it sounded more ominous than other people's. I imagined my character as a plate or shirt that had been manufactured incorrectly and was therefor useless" ( Kaysen 74).
Reaction.
My reaction to this quote was surprised and I thought of people that go threw the same thing Susanna goes through. I was surprised because I found it akward how she explained her problem like a disorder, even though it was true. She was beating behind the bush or anythign, she simply admit her problem and was ok with it. Usually the patient avoids the truth and acts af is everything is ok with her , when its not like that. I thought of how i nthis world there are people like her that need help, butI feel liek hse doesnt need it as much. I feel like this becuase she knows better when she wants to, but theres days she simply acts diffrent. When shes alone shes a whole diffrent person but when shesi n front of the other girls, it seems as if she puts an act.

I apologize for the writing , I have no clue why it appears to be such a big size. I tried a few times to fix it but nothing seems to work.

My Independent Reading Book - Rosa*

Summary
For my outside reading choice i selected the book " Girl Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen that's based on a true story of a girl who lived right here in Boston, Ma. Each character goes through a different mental problem in which they're trying to improve by attending a a sort of home in which they're bring treated and watched. There are many girls involved in this story like Lisa, Polly, Daisy, Martians Girlfriend, the nurses, and Daisy's father. All these girls have gone through things and even tried suicide to why they stand where they are now. For example Polly set herself on fire and now her skin is disgusting , is the colors pink & brown, and she absolutely hates how she looks. In the past pages they are all interacting, watching TV together, gossiping and so forth. So far I believe that most of the girls will kill themselves by the end by their intolerant behavior and actions. The girls don't see how what they do is affecting their life and find they're horrible thoughts. For instance, there's a chapter talking about suicide and ho they feel if you don't practice, pretend, and think about it enough you wont do it. Its as if they find death pleasant and they don't see it as the end to their life. The girls need more help then what they have now, and they need it soon before the girls end up killing themselves or each other.
Quotation
Throughout these pages Susanna had many suicidal thoughts that were very dangerous. For example, " Suicide is a form of murder-premeditated murder. It isn't something you do the first time you think of doing it. It takes getting use to. And you need the means, the opportunity, the motive. A successful suicide demands good organization and a cool head, both of which are usually incompatible with the suicidal state of mind" (Kaysen 45).
Reaction
My reaction to the quote was that i felt scared, terrified, bad and sympathy. I came upon all these feelings by the thoughts that ran threw my head as I read. I thought about all the things that the girls may be thinking of doing to themselves, the mentality of the girls, and how they don't appreciate life. I saw all of this because its sad to see such young girls thinking this way and wanting to hurt themselves. It just doesn't make sence to me because I would never think the way they do. In addition to that, I felt scared because suicidal thoughts are creepy, to think of hurting yourself and things like that isn't something to be happy about.
