Summary
Nearing the end of the book they discussed about Leonel , the current president of the Dominican Republic. His background and childhood was discussed and how at first he was loved by the Dominicans. ( Now Leonel is not really liked, and people want him to be replaced. When I went for vacation my aunt was telling me how he is doing nothing and watching them fall apart). In addition the book talked about how even though they had their differences they managed to get along better at one point . They celebrated by having carnivals, and "patronales" which is the name of get togethers held in Dominican Republic. They have a few days of fun in which they dance, eat and forget all the bad things. They settled their differences by combining together, despite how much they pretty much hated eachother.Although after this event everything goes back to normal . The ending wasnt really what I expected but this is pretty much it.
Quotation
"The three worlds have fused into one"(Wucker 251).
Reaction
The reaction I had to this part was a big smile on my face becuase finally the haitians and dominicans are looking past their diffrences. I honestly think it is stupid that the dominicans and haitians cna have so many problems when they are basicly neighboors. They make the problems get bigger instead of trying to actually fix them. The only time you;d see them blending in together would be during the carbnivals thta only lasted one day.
I believe that if the dominicans and haitians stop fighting then it would be a better enviroment for both parties.

Summary
Nearing the end of the book up to about the 210's nd 220 , the book is discussing drug dealing. As it is known now and still was throughout the early times, many dominicans are involved in this type of action. It is not only dominicans in the dominican republic but those who migrate to New York , Boston, and other places in theU.S . The book discussed drug dealing in New York which is the same now or even worse. Before as the book explained it was simple but now it is getting a little bigger since now dominicans getdeported back. Many dominicans that take part in this action in the Dominican Republic do it because there are no other jobs available. There arent many jobs available as money is needed so many dominicans are faced with no choice in what to do. The bookalso talked about how many dominicans do go to New York as the place to head to when leaving the country wheater it is illegal or legal. In the United States it is discussed how domincans when being enterd i nthe U.S are nto involved or heard by others because of the factthat they came "straight of the boat". They try to get involved but it is not easy when you are also trying to learn English and learn at the same time. Although in New York dominicans are more involved politicaly since there is supposrt from their own kind.
Quotation
"Dominicans have sent their young men north for a long time. The merengue star Juan Luis Guerra sings, in his hit "Visa para su Sueno"..(Wucker 203)
Reaction
Dominicans all have a dream to be able to come to the united states and build a new begining. The Dominican Republic is filled with people doing nothing since there are barely any jobs. The poverty they are going through is serious that it leads to violence. When I went over the summer to D.R , I seen people begging for food . This was so sad and breaks my heart because most people want to just have a better life. The merengue described in the quote is saying "let me go to te U.S , a better life over there is my dream so I need my visa". Its just sad how all these people who want to do the right thing in having a better life , can't obtain that oppourtunity.

Summary
Throughout these pages I read, the Dominican Republic was going through a good time period with economy as the Haitians did not. Although after a period of time the Dominicans got into a debt because they owed more then millions to the U.S. Around this time the Dominicans had a bad president who used money from the banks for his personal reasons. He did not care for the Dominicans and simply took advantage of them. The Dominicans although got rid of him eventually because of all the mistreatment, but they weren't the only ones. The Haitian cane cutters where getting mistreatment from the Dominicans and the world watched this. In Haiti also they received a bad president who spent a lot of money unnecessarily. He was the son of one of the older presidents time ago who was the same way. He was known as "baby doc" and he wasted more then 3 million dollars in his wedding. As this occurred the Haitians received messages from the pope giving them advice. From here then I learned how both the Haitians and Dominicans experienced their first democratic president. Both did not last very long and in the Haitians then had the next president remain for 12 years later.
Quotation
"... foreign debt was an international plot to force the two nations of Hispaniola together"(Wucker165).
Reaction
The dominican debt probably was to get both parts together becuase that ment the dominicans would probably try to get along better with haitians. This might happen so that the dominicans could get otu of debt and better their economy, By this the dominicans would then stop mistreting the cane cutters since theyll might need their help. This would be the time that both nations would actually have to put their diffrences aside. So i do believe it was a international plot to make them work together as one.

ROAR POST 2
SUmmary
Up to page 100 , we got to see more of the views between Haitians and Dominicans and how they felt towards eachother. Trujillo was not liekd at all in D.r therefor he was assasinated, just as people wanted; the land although was lead to complete chaos after. In the west of Haiti they were having disputes with the president Vincent , his attitude lead him to be killed as well. There does exist a small town in the Dominican Republic called Little Haiti. There Haitian merchant and Dominicans converge to trade, sell, and buy things they need. The town harbors get the same bad treatment and racial conflict between Haitians. Crime, poverty, exist alot within that small town in the Dominican Republican. In addition, trust and love exists between the neighbors, Dominican and Haitian since some dont want more chaos going on. The workers from the small town go to work over on the sugar cane farms. But, the farm owners and government were well known for their mistreatment of workers , which is related to slaves during the 19th century. Dominican workers although have a bad side for many Haitians because they take up many jobs that could of been available for them. The government has a love and hate relationship between the Haitians. The dominicans fear of the haitians because they feel as if they are a weight load on the government, they are met with disdain from some Dominicans, and some politicians fear the Haitians could take over the country. Besides all this dominicans dont completly hate Haiti, but they constantly have many issues with eachother based on many other topics.

" The Haitian come to Santo Domingo to escape hunger and violence wrought by decades of brutal and corrupt dictators who have bled Haiti dry" (Wucker 84).
Reaction
This quotation reminds me of exactly what I saw when I visited Dominican Republic for the summer last year. When I was there I saw many Haitians who encounterd with Dominicans work wise like the book mentioned. This reminded me of a specific time when I went out with my aunt shopping and I stopped at a little stand of Coconut drinks to buy one. The guy was Haitian and spoke to me in Spanish , and i exchanged words with him.He told me about how he is staying at Dominican Republic for a while to get some money and then go back to his family. As soon as I read this I remeberd the man and how nice he was to me.
